Urban Trails
A mobility action plan to connect residents to key community destinations and neighborhoods.
ENVIRONMENTAL | WAYFINDING
BRIEF La Mesa’s Urban Trails is a mobility action plan which informs the user of basic navigation, and connects residents to high-priority neighborhoods and key community destinations. The challenge was to develop and design a way-finding system to encourage that leads and encourages those in La Mesa to use Urban Trails to walk, bike, and use transit systems to find their way around.
SOLUTION I began to research the history of La Mesa and exploring it’s streets. When walking in La Mesa, I noticed that there are many existing signs and objects with similar attributes. These attributes include a hill like shape, icons within circles, and die cuts. The solution uses these main characteristics and transforms them to a more modern design that connects to La Mesa’s existing brand.
Because La Mesa is otherwise known as “the jewel of the hills,” the sign are then made to be more functional with a greater emphasis on four different jewels with varying shapes and colors. This makes it so those that see it will quickly know where they are and where they are heading. Its simplicity makes for a stress-free experience for all ages.
